Bambi is the protagonist of the 1923 Felix Salten book Bambi: A Life in The Woods, along with the 1939 sequel Bambi's Children, and the 1942 Disney film of the same name and its midquel Bambi II. Bambi's original species was a Roe deer for the Felix Salten books (which were based in Austria), but that was changed to a White-tail deer for the Disney version of the character as the White-tail deer is more recognizable for American audiences and Roe deer don't live in the United States. . In the Disney media, Bambi has been best friends with Thumper (a rabbit) and Flower (a skunk) shortly after he was born. He has also made numerous cameos in Disney cartoons and shorts. Bambi is voiced by Bobby Stewart as a baby, Donnie Dunagan as a fawn, Hardie Albright as an adolescent, and John Sutherland as a buck in the first film, and by Alexander Gould as a fawn in the midquel.
