Edward Regan "Eddie" Murphy (born April 3, 1961) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, singer, director, and musician who is best known for his frequent comedic roles in films and on television, including Axel Foley in the Beverly Hills Cop film franchise, Prince Akeem Joffer in the 1988 comedy film Coming to America, Professor Sherman Klump in The Nutty Professor and its sequel (where he also played other characters), and for his voice role as Donkey in the Shrek film franchise, produced by DreamWorks Animation.
In 1998, Murphy made his Disney debut as Mushu in the animated film Mulan, which gained him praise for his naturally comedic voice work. In 2003, he starred in The Haunted Mansion as lead star Jim Evers.
