Janet Damita Jo Jackson is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and dancer, who is best known for her innovative, socially conscious, and sexually provocative records, as well as elaborate stage shows. In addition to music, she is also known for her various acting roles, such as Justice LaRue in Poetic Justice, Professor Denise Gaines in Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and Dr. Patricia Agnew in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? and its 2010 sequel. She also played Millicent "Penny" Gordon Woods in the CBS sitcom Good Times (19771978), Charlene DuPrey in the NBC sitcom Diff'rent Strokes (19801984), and Cleo Hewitt in the NBC/syndicated show Fame (1984–1985).

For Disney, she contributed the song "I Know the Truth" with Elton John in the concept album Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida and appeared at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards, for which she won the inaugural impact award. Her song "Nasty" was heard in the television special Totally Minnie, and an interpolation of her song "What Have You Done for Me Lately" was used in the song "Joyful, Joyful" for the 1993 Touchstone Pictures sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Her song "Runaway" was parodied by S. Khar Go as "Crawl Away" in the Bill Nye the Science Guy episode "Invertebrates". She was also mentioned in The Parent Trap III and the A.N.T. Farm episode "influANTces" (with Chyna Parks dressing up as Jackson in said episode).
