Larry Clemmons was an American animator, screenwriter, and voice actor. For Disney, he wrote and animated shorts, like The Tortoise and the Hare and The Magical World of Disney.
Clemmons was born in 1906 and graduated with a degree in architecture from University of Michigan. However, he couldn't find work due to the effects of the Great Depression. He soon accepted a job offer from Walt Disney in 1930 to work at his Hyperion Studios before becoming an assistant animator for Mickey Mouse cartoons.
When World War II happened, Clemmons left the studio to the Midwest, where he wrote technical manuals for wartime manufacturing plants. After the war, he freelanced in radio and landed a job on Bing Crosby’s prime-time network radio shows. He wrote scripts, and assorted guest stars for nine years. Later, he returned to Walt Disney Productions as a writer and segment producer on Mickey Mouse Club. He later help to solidify the stories for films, like The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, and The Rescuers, where he also voiced the character Gramps, a turtle.
Clemmons retired in 1978 and passed away at the age of 81 on July 22, 1988.
