Russell Means (November 10, 1939 - October 22, 2012) was a Native American activist, politician, actor, writer, and musician who provided the speaking voice of Chief Powhatan in the 1995 Disney animated film Pocahontasand its 1998 sequel. Disney sought Means for the role of Powhatan, who was not interested at first. However, after reading the script for Pocahontas, Russell Means was very supportive of the film and agreed to the role.
