Synopsis[]
Mystery Mutt shows Malky Moose the Mystery Mutt-chine, which is a van that has some various useful things to help solve mysteries. He invites Malky in his van and goes for a ride in it and they go after a bank robber named Lester Haggard.
Plot[]
In Farmville, Rubyswell, Wisconsin, Mystery Mutt was guides Malky Moose to lead him to a surprise. Malky wears a blindfold so he would not peek. When Malky takes off the blindfold as Mystery Mutt tells him to, and he sees the surprise, which turns out to be a special kind of a van called the 'Mystery Mutt-chine.'
So Mystery Mutt invites Malky to go on a ride in the Mystery Mutt-chine with him. They get into their seats and Malky constantly adjusts his seat to try to sit at the right position, but it eventually annoys because he was constantly adjusting to try to sit at a good posture. At last, Malky stops and got a good posture.
Mystery Mutt starts the engine and drives the Mystery Mutt drives away and through the town in Rubyswell. Suddenly, some beeping signal Mystery Mutt an alert about someone mysterious nearby. And he sets the van to search for the mysterious figure.
The mysterious figure turns out to be a robber named Lester Haggard who stole money from a bank. He gets into his car and pulls away. Mystery Mutt starts chasing Lester.
While Mystery Mutt was still chases the crook, Malky sees a red button on the dashboard that he never noticed at first. He thinks it is the button for the radio. Mystery Mutt tells him not to press it, but it is too late. Mystery Mutt gets launched out of the van with his seat ejected and he bumps his head on a lamppost and falls down by the curb of the sidewalk with a bump. Malky continues riding, but out of control.
Mystery Mutt angrily grabs his seat, quickly flies back to the van, gets back to where he was sitting, and continues driving. Mystery Mutt tells Malky that the red button is for emergencies only.
While Mystery Mutt and Malky are still after Lester, the police sees Lester pass by fast and the driver drives the car with the siren turned on to chase him while Mystery Mutt continues driving to keep chasing Lester.
Lester drives so fast that recklessly bumps into a fire hydrant and a gusher of water flows just like oil from an oil well. Malky wonders what an orange button in the Mystery Mutt-chine is for. Mystery Mutt warns him not to press it, but it was too late. The orange button is for the van’s built-in cannon to shoot a giant paintball. The paintball splats a lady horse on a bench with green paint that trickles all over her. Malky apologizes to her, but Mystery Mutt warns him that if he presses one more button, he would have him get out of his van. Malky does not say anything. He just mopes and folds his arms.
While Lester is still driving, he pours some tacks on the road that puncture and deflate the police car’s tires to slow the police down. Mystery Mutt sees some of the tacks on the road and presses the button for his van’s built-in broom and it sweeps the tacks away to prevent the van from getting flat tires.
Malky lets Mystery Mutt know that he found him, but he was so excited that he accidentally presses a button, which is for the Mystery Mutt-chine’s built-in jetpack and it makes the Mystery Mutt-chine go super fast. Malky holds onto Mystery Mutt, but his upper hooves block Mystery Mutt’s eyes. Malky is too scared to let go.
The Mystery Mutt-chine goes super fast and gets driven out of control until it crashes into a monopole that has a billboard advertising "Sow-da Pop," which is a soda shoppe located in Rubyswell. The monopole gets loose and it falls down onto some cars on the road where some animals are driving. All those animals in public are shocked but angry. Mystery Mutt is angry, too, but very furious with Malky. He scolds and blames Malky for what he did that he should not have done. Malky tries to beg for another chance, but Mystery Mutt would not listen as he sends him away. Malky sadly walks away, but Mystery Mutt is still furious.
Mystery Mutt cleare the mess with his powers and apologizes for the inconvenience to everyone in public and tells them that everything would be okay, but he is still angry at Malky and he drives away with his damaged truck to continue the chase after Lester. At last, Mystery Mutt finds him and tackles him. Mystery Mutt tells him to surrender and bring back the money he stole, but Lester refuses. Then, it is time for plan B, which is to tickle Lester and Mystery Mutt does so to make him laugh hysterically until he finally surrenders.
Mystery Mutt brings the robber to the police and they arrest him and lock him in a cell. The police thank Mystery Mutt and he flies away to his van and drives straight home.
Next day, Malky Moose is still sad about what he had done wrong the other day. He feels like Mystery Mutt dislikes him. Then, he hears some beeps and a familiar voice calls him. It turns out to be Mystery Mutt in his Mystery Mutt-chine that looks good as new. Malky feels amazed and Mystery Mutt tells him that he used his powers to fix the Mystery Mutt-chine and that Lester Haggard was in jail. Malky tells Mystery Mutt that he saw that in the newspaper he read and he apologizes for everything he did wrong the other day. Mystery Mutt apologizes to Malky for being very harsh with him, too. So they both forgive each other and Malky wonders what he could do to make it up to Mystery Mutt. That gives Mystery Mutt an idea.
Mystery Mutt's idea is that since the billboard that advertised "Sow-da Pop" fell down because of the incident with the Mystery Mutt-chine, Malky Moose would take him to Sow-da Pop and he does so, too. Malky has got a Granny Smith float and Mystery Mutt has got an orange float. Malky decides that next time in the future, he would not press any buttons if he does not know what they are for at first and Mystery Mutt decides that he would teach Malky what every button and every switch in his van what they are for before he makes any mistakes. Malky says a pun, which is 'moose-takes' since he is a moose and he and Mystery Mutt laugh. Malky also says that if the Mystery Mutt-chine were his van, he would call it the 'Mystery Moose-chine' or the 'Moose-tery Machine' and it would solve mysteries about moose and he would call them 'moose-teries' and that makes him and Mystery Mutt laugh even more.

Trivia[]
- 'The Mystery Mutt-chine' is like a pun of the name of the van from the Scooby-Doo franchise, 'The Mystery Machine.'
- This is the first short film, the first G-rated film, and the first direct-to-video film in the the Barnyard Hero Brigade franchise instead of theatrical or PG-rated like the feature film.
- Just like some of Disney’s classic short films, including Mickey Mouse, Mystery Mutt’s head is shown on a sunburst pattern, but a magnifying glass floats and stops in front of Mystery Mutt’s eye blinking two times in a row through it. Then on the burlap title card, there are words that say "A Disney Mystery Mutt Cartoon" and then the next title card that shows the name of the short film. At the ending, it shows the same ending burlap title card, but it says "A Disney Mystery Mutt Cartoon The End."
